| Kalahandi district is coming under KBK ( Kalahandi-
Balangir- Koraput ) region is the poorest district of
Odisha. Out of 13 no. of Blocks, Thuamul Rampur and
Lanjigarh blocks are the two major tribal domiciled
blocks with 53 % of total population where Integrated
Tribal Development Agency, Thuamul Rampur is functioning
since 15th March, 1979.
In development paradigm, this region lags behind in all
respects starting with communication, illiteracy, lack
of employment opportunities, low production in
agriculture, low level income to indebt-ness. All these
deprivations have forced them to depend on forest and
podu cultivation as an alternative source of livelihood.
For an alternative source of livelihood, Odisha Tribal
Empowerment & Livelihoods Programme has intervened its
programme in 2004-05 in 120 villages in seven Gram
Panchayats of Lanjigarh and Thuamul Rampur Block of
Kalahandi district in the Phase-I. In the Phase-II the
programme has intervened in another 48 no of villages.
